MathChase

This game applet requires a Java-capable browser.

MathChase is a game for TWO players at ONE computer.
So, try it out and then go get someone to sit at your computer and play it with you.
You can look at the Instructions below, while it's loading.
Your browser is not running JAVA. If JAVA were running, you would see the MathChase game here.
If keyboard steering isn't working, click the mouse on the road once.
Instructions:

PLAY
At the top of the applet you'll see your assigned goal and your options. Click on "New Game" a few times to see some sample goals. You start at zero and must add and multiply your way to the goal. At each fork in the road you can steer toward the addition or multiplication option. Each player drives on his or her own road. One player uses the keyboard for steering and the other uses the mouse. Your current position is always displayed just above your road. The first player to get to the goal wins. You can start a "New Game" or "Restart" the current game by clicking on the buttons.

CONTROLS
The keyboard player uses the I, J, K, L and H keys to drive. On some browsers the arrow keys and Home key will also work: You may need to click the mouse on the road once, before the keyboard keys will work.

The mouse player moves the cursor over the red/orange mouse-control rectangles to steer and clicks on the "Back to 0" button to start over at 0.

STRATEGY
Your route to the goal may be long or short depending on the choices you make. You'll find that adding or multiplying at certain forks makes all the difference. It's often a good strategy to go back to 0 if you've taken a bad turn. A perfect run results from adding and multiplying your way along the most efficient route possible.

LEVELS
There are 3 difficulty levels for this game. Near the bottom of the screen you may choose from MiniChase, MathChase or MasterChase. Each level introduces more challenging combinations of goal and options.

SYSTEM SPEED
The speed at which you cruise the math road is dependent on your computer and browser. The applet cannot make your system perform any faster, so the driving speed is set to a maximum. However, if you have an especially fast system, the race will move too fast and the steering will be jerky and hard to control. For a smoother ride, slow the pace by selecting a higher number for system speed.

BROWSERS
Some browsers require you specifically permit Java Applets to run. If you're having problems you might try looking under Tools and Options to find out where to turn on Java.

This is the end of the instructions, enjoy! Play MathChase.
